One Art Poem Theme

Ans:-Yes, I agree with the poetess that the art of losing isn’t hard to master. The poetess has presented a lot of examples, personal and impersonal which do make the art of losing is not hard to master and this is main theme of the poem “One Art”

“The art of losing isn’t hard to master

So many things seems filled with the intent

To be lost that their loss is no disaster”

The poetess means to say that this is very easy to learn. Because there are so many things that are ready to write that man may lose them. Actually, the main purpose as well as theme poem One Art the poetess to write the poem is to teach “how to become thankful, contented and patient’ in life. When man loses some thing, he must accept the loss as the will of God. The poetess even goes too far by saying that:-

I lost mother’s watch. And look; my last, or

Next-to-last, of three loved house went

The art of losing isn’t hard to master

Even she herself teaches as how to become thankful, contented and patient to the will of God. The art of losing actually is the art to become contented patience and thankful to the will of God.

She herself if gives a method to master the art of losing. She very, nicely tells the use to become contented, patient and thankful to the will of God because nobody loses one’s things willingly but things are lost by the will of God. So man should accept the loss as the decree of his fate as the poetess gives the way to master the art. She says:-

“Lose something every day. Accept the fluster

                                           Of lost door key

                                 And she herself further says

Then practice losing farther, losing faster

Place and names and where it was you want

Thus , having read the whole poem One Art Poem the theme becomes clear that art is losing is not hard mast thing.

One Art

BY ELIZABETH BISHOP

The art of losing isn’t hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster
.

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother’s watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn’t a disaster.

—Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan’t have lied. It’s evident
the art of losing’s not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.
